U.S. Girls is the solo project of Illinois-born singer Meghan Remy. The band's name came out of a joking conversation with a friend. Her first performances date back to 2007 in the Philadelphia area, which also led to the recording of her first two albums ("Introducing" and "Go Grey") for the small independent label Siltbreeze. These early works were highly experimental; with the following two albums she tried to make her music more accessible by using vocal parts more frequently, though she remained within the indie circuit. With her fifth album, 2015's "Half Free", she earned a nomination for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. In 2018 she released a career-defining album, "In A Poem Unlimited", acclaimed by critics for the way it successfully balances social and political themes within an original pop package.
The follow-up, "Heavy Light", is one of her most widely embraced works, thanks above all to the single "4 American Dollars", which received a warm reception on the American charts. In 2022 she released "Bless This Mess", her eighth studio album
