Turnstile

A hardcore punk outfit from Baltimore formed in 2010, originally made up of Brendan Yates (vocals, keyboards and percussion), “Freaky” Franz Lyons (bass), Daniel Fang (drums), Sean “Coo” Cullen and Brady Ebert (guitars), and in constant evolution, with the stated aim of breaking down barriers both sonically and ideologically. After the debut Eps “Pressure to Succeed” (2011) and “Step 2 Rhythm” (2013), and their first album “Nonstop Feeling” (2015), the band showed a desire to broaden its horizons in 2018 with “Time & Space”, landing in the critical spotlight: their first collaboration with Roadrunner Records was included among the best albums of the year by outlets such as The New Yorker, the New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, and GQ. In the meantime, in 2016, Cullen left the band, making way for Pat McCrory.

Turnstile's true breakthrough came in 2021 with “GLOW ON“, their third LP, in which they fuse the classic New York hardcore sound - made of blazing riffs, driving rhythms, visceral vocal parts - with softer, cleaner influences recalling alt-rock, and a more dreamy and reverb-soaked production. The record earns the band three nominations at the 65th Grammy Awards, followed by just as many intense years of touring as support act for My Chemical Romance and Blink-182, as well as appearances at major festivals and stages around the world.

Having become a quartet after Ebert's departure in 2022, they are joined on tour first by guitarist Greg Cerwonka (Take Offense), and later by Meg Mills (Big Cheese, Chubby And The Gang). Their latest release, out in August 2023, is titled “New Heart Designs” and was made together with BADBADNOTGOOD: it features reworked versions of “Mystery”, “Alien Love Call” and “Underwater Boi”.
