The Star Pillow is the moniker behind which Tuscan musician Paolo Monti operates. Active since 2007, the project offers a constant intersection of ambient, drone and post-rock – with melodic hybridizations and experimentally-tinged improvisational drifts – centered on the emotional rendering of the relationship between humans and environment.
In 2009 came "Christmas Sessions", the first work to seal the partnership with Taverna Records that would continue until 2015. "Fattore ambientale" (2012, Taverna) was made with the collaboration of pianist Federico Gerini, who starting with the following "Via Del Chiasso" (2013, Setola di maiale) – which features a contribution from Bruno Romani of Detonazione – became a fixture in the project for two years. After this phase of expanding sonic horizons, The Star Pillow settled back permanently into a solo dimension, producing contemplative trajectories with a cosmic flavor, among which particular mention goes to "Above" (2016, Time Released Sound) and "Symphony For An Intergalactic Brotherhood" (2018, Boring Machines).
Since 2016 Monti, together with Nicola Quiriconi (VipCancro, Lisca Records) and Simon Balestrazzi, has been part of the deep drone ensemble Daimon, and together with Julinko and Tristan da Cunha he gave life to the dreamgaze/doom/trip-hop quartet Bosco Sacro.
