Drawing on influences reminiscent of Broadcast and Stereolab, bands to whom the Nottingham quartet are often a bit too lazily compared, the Soundcarriers' sound draws on a host of elements pulled from kraut-rock, English folk, library music, jazz and lounge, as well as '60s pop and psychedelia.
The Soundcarriers are Adam Cann, Dorian Conway, Leonore Wheatley and Paul Isherwood, and they made their recording debut with the single "I Had a Girl" in 2007, followed two years later by their first LP, titled "Harmonium", a record that set the template for the band's sound: a motorik groove underpinning a hazy, delicate folk sensibility.
"Harmonium" was followed shortly after by "Celeste" in 2010, a record that, like its predecessor, earned excellent reviews from critics.
"Entropicalia", the long-awaited third Soundcarriers album, was released in 2014, preceded the year before by a peculiar limited vinyl edition of alternate mixes from the same album, not yet officially released ("The Other World of the Soundcarriers").
Entropicalia featured guest appearances on a couple of tracks from Jesse Chandler of Midlake, as well as actor Elijah Wood.
