Softcult

by Ljós Berinn

Softcult is the project of Canadian sisters Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn, born as a direct response to an idea of music and industry that no longer left room for complexity. After their time in the pop-rock world, the duo chose independence and built a personal language blending shoegaze, grunge, punk and riot grrrl tension, defining their own sound as riotgaze: seductive melodies run through with noise charged with friction and awareness.

With "When a Flower Doesn’t Grow", Softcult sign their full-length debut as an act of taking a stand rather than simply making a statement. A record that turns vulnerability into structure, tackling themes of oppression, trauma and self-determination without indulging in victimhood. This is music that remains accessible without being tamed, able to hold together anger and care, pop form and political urgency, confirming the duo as one of the most consistent and recognizable voices in contemporary alternative music.
