Skunk Anansie

Skunk Anansie are a British band formed in 1994. They broke up in 2001, then got back together in 2009. The name "Skunk Anansie" comes from the folk tales of Anansi, the Ghanaian spider-god, with "Skunk" added to "make the name more striking".

Their music has been described as an amalgam of heavy metal and "black" protest, deeply engaged with politics and drawing on funk, blues, rock, reggae and hip-hop influences.

The band is made up of singer Skin (Deborah Dyer), Cass (Richard Lewis) on bass and backing vocals, Ace (Martin Kent) on guitar and backing vocals, and Mark Richardson on drums and backing vocals.

Their discography includes six studio albums: "Paranoid and Sunburnt" (1995), "Stoosh" (1996), "Post Orgasmic Chill" (1999), "Wonderlustre" (2010), "Black Traffic" (2012), "Anarchitecture" (2016), a compilation, "Smashes and Trashes" (2009), and many hit singles, including "Charity", "Hedonism", "Selling Jesus" and "Weak".

Born on the grittiest streets of London in early 1994, Skunk Anansie lived through an era of major social, political and musical upheaval. Throughout the '90s they were one of the biggest rock bands in Britain and across Europe, selling over 5 million records.

After an 8-year split, Skin pursued a solo career. The band reformed and, since 2009, has released four new albums: "Smashes And Trashes" (2009) and "Wonderlustre" (2010), "Black Traffic" (2012), "Acoustic Live In London" (2013).

In January 2016 came their sixth studio album: "Anarchitecture"
