Sabrina Carpenter is an American singer, actress and songwriter born on May 11, 1999 in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. From a young age she showed great interest in music and acting, posting covers on YouTube that caught the attention of several producers, opening the doors to the entertainment world.
Carpenter gained popularity thanks to her role as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World", a spin-off of the popular "Boy Meets World". Maya's character, rebellious yet sensitive, allowed her to showcase her skills both as an actress and as a singer, earning praise and a loyal fanbase. Alongside her TV career, she launched her musical path: in 2015 she released her debut album, "Eyes Wide Open", marking her entry into the pop world. The album's tracks, such as the title track and "We'll Be The Stars", showcase her vocal ability and a knack for catchy melodies.
Afterwards, Sabrina Carpenter continued to evolve her musical style, moving toward more mature sounds and themes. In 2016, her second album "EVOLution" showed a more sophisticated approach, with pop, dance and R&B influences. Tracks like "On Purpose" and "Thumbs" achieved solid commercial success, establishing her as a rising artist on the pop scene.
In 2018 and 2019 she released two complementary albums, "Singular: Act I" and "Singular: Act II", in which she explores greater thematic complexity and a more personal style. These albums produced singles like "Almost Love" and "Sue Me", which became especially popular among younger audiences for their messages of empowerment and self-affirmation.
Beyond her music career, Carpenter has continued acting in various productions, including the Netflix film "Tall Girl" and her recent role in the musical thriller "Emergency". At the same time, she has also been an ambassador for various awareness campaigns and has used her platform to speak about social issues, including civil rights and mental health.
Her album "Emails I Can't Send", released in 2022, marked a more personal and introspective turn for Carpenter. The record, which includes tracks like "Skin" and "Fast Times", was praised for the maturity of its songwriting and the artist's ability to tackle more intimate and complex themes.
In 2024, Carpenter released "Short N' Sweet", an album that reflects a further step in her artistic evolution. The single "Espresso", taken from this album, became a hit and received particular attention for its catchy rhythm and fresh sound, reflecting a mix of pop and dance influences. Other tracks on the record, such as "Let Me Stay" and "Blue Skies Again", were praised for balancing introspection with sophisticated pop sounds.
With a career that keeps growing, Sabrina Carpenter is establishing herself as one of the most versatile and beloved young artists in contemporary pop.
The follow-up to "Short n'Sweet" comes out in 2025, titled "Man's Best Friend". A record that tries to play the card of vintage, humorous pop, sporting a cover that has not failed to spark controversy. The album, setting aside the obligatory controversy (faced without flinching, complete with a generous bouquet of alternative covers) and its titillating allure, is actually a far more melancholy affair, full of complicated relationships, unsatisfying encounters and men to be shown the door as soon as possible. With an aesthetic that erases every trace of contemporaneity in favor of pop vintage-ism to the bone, Carpenter offers laughs that feel more like self-exorcism, a desperate attempt at control, so as not to end up like a dog — like the title that represents the album.
Together with his trusty Jack Antonoff and all of his Bleachers, Carpenter makes a record that wants to measure up to this very songbook, fitting into the tradition with a finely analog sound, decidedly sparing in synthetic elements, far more attentive to how the sound translates live. A point of difference, in a pop landscape still largely affected by brat-wave, though one that also reveals the clear limits of songwriting more focused on the catchphrase than on substance.
