Oranssi Pazuzu

Oranssi Pazuzu is a Finnish band formed in 2007, known for its unique approach that fuses black metal with psychedelic, kraut-rock and avant-garde elements. The band's name evokes an intriguing duality: "Oranssi" means "orange" in Finnish, a colour associated with psychedelia and experimentation, while "Pazuzu" is the name of an ancient Mesopotamian demon, a menacing figure representing the dark, chaotic side of their sound.

The band is made up of singer and guitarist Jun-His (Ville Leppilahti), guitarist Moit (Niko Lehdontie), bassist Ontto (Toni Hietamäki), keyboardist/trumpeter EviL (Ilmari Luusua) and drummer Korjak (Jarkko Salo).

Oranssi Pazuzu's debut album "Muukalainen Puhuu" (2009) immediately established their innovative style, combining black metal ferocity with spacey synths and disorienting atmospheres.

Critical acclaim grew with their second album "Kosmonument" (2011), which further deepened the cosmic, psychedelic component of their sound, broadening their international following. "Valonielu" (2013) carried on in the same direction, painting intense, visionary soundscapes in which the boundaries of traditional black metal were constantly pushed.

A significant turning point came with "Värähtelijä" (2016), a complex, dark album that established Oranssi Pazuzu as one of the most innovative forces in the contemporary metal scene. "Värähtelijä" is a sonic journey through cosmic chaos and mysticism, with long tracks and hypnotic musical structures that defy genre conventions.

In 2020, the Finnish band released "Mestarin Kynsi", an even more ambitious work blending their psychedelic approach with near-tribal rhythms and a growing inclination towards industrial and noise.

In 2024, another bullseye with "Muuntautuja", the darkest record Oranssi Pazuzu have ever made, and perhaps their most destabilising.

Oranssi Pazuzu are also known for their live shows, genuine sensory experiences featuring hypnotic lighting and visual projections that heighten the otherworldly atmosphere of their music.
