Vincenzo Germano — known artistically as Opera23 — is a contemporary composer whose music arises from the crossing of experimental jazz, electronics and 20th-century instrumental tradition, not to blend them together, but to build a personal voice in constant evolution. Born in Calabria, he left the South at 19 to move to Bologna, where he studied composition with Cesare Augusto Grandi and electronic music with Lelio Camilleri and Francesco Giomi (Tempo Reale, historic collaborator of Luciano Berio). Meeting them marked a fertile rupture: the awareness that innovation and tradition are not opposite poles, but parts of the same poetic operation. After Bologna came Denmark: Musicology studies in Copenhagen, with research on the composer Peter Arnold Heise at the Danish State Archives, which profoundly transformed his vision of the compositional process. A perfect counterweight to his Mediterranean nature. Then Spain — first Barcelona, now Madrid — and with it another revelation: an uninhibited relationship with tradition. Opera as work, as the act of making. Not a reference to opera as in lyric theatre, but to the craftsman's gesture of composing and performing. 23, his birth date and an evolutionary figure: Fibonacci, sequences, processes that mature and transform. His work lives in the constant transformation of languages and in the possibility of giving them continuity through evolution. Contemporary jazz, electronics, electroacoustic music, symphonism, sound installation: not mixed, but metabolized.
