Offspring

Offspring are an American punk-rock band formed in Garden Grove, California, in 1984. They're often cited, alongside Green Day, Blink-182 and Rancid, for helping to reinterpret early punk-rock sounds in a modern key during the Nineties. They've sold more than 36 million records, making them one of the best-selling punk bands of all time.

Offspring are considered among the leading exponents and heirs of classic early-Eighties Californian melodic hardcore, despite both their considerable commercial success and the sometimes lighter sound that characterizes them.

Offspring managed to exert a strong influence on numerous bands formed afterward, helped also by Nitro, the record label owned jointly by singer Dexter Holland and bassist Greg K.

The band's first two albums, the first released on Nemesis and the second on Epitaph, dealt with political themes in a melodic vein. Starting with the album "Smash", which still holds the sales record for an independent label, Epitaph, the Californian outfit dropped these themes and found huge commercial success through singles such as "Come Out And Play" and "Self Esteem".

The next three albums, "Ixnay On The Hombre", "Americana" and "Conspiracy Of One", released on Columbia, shifted the band's sound slightly toward pop-punk elements, but still achieved solid success.

During 2003, longtime drummer Ron Welty decided to leave the band to pursue his side project Steady Ground, and Atom Willard was recruited to take his place.

On December 1, 2003, the album "Splinter" was released in Italy, bringing the band's sound back toward fast, angry punk, with touches of hardcore and metal and reduced pop-punk influences compared to the past. Two years after the release of the band's first "Greatest Hits" in 2005, Atom Willard left the band to devote himself to the Angels & Airwaves project, and Pete Parada was brought in to replace him.

The band spent almost two years working on their eighth studio album. "Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace" was released in Italy starting June 13, 2008. On June 26, 2012, their ninth studio album, "Days Go By", was released, followed in 2021 by "Let The Bad Times Roll", which nods right from its title to the universal desire to break free from the pandemic, doing so across twelve tracks that tweak their trademark punk sound minus the violence of their early days.

In 2024 came the announcement of Offspring's eleventh studio album, "Supercharged".
