Marco Mengoni

Marco Mengoni, born December 25, 1988 in Ronciglione, in the province of Viterbo, is one of the leading names on the current Italian mainstream scene. Blessed with a powerful, versatile and instantly recognizable voice, over the years he has established himself through his ability to blend pop instinct, interpretative elegance and an ongoing expressive quest.

His career began in 2009 with his win on the third season of X Factor, where he won over audiences with his soulful timbre and a repertoire that drew on both the Italian tradition and Anglo-American music. Success came immediately: his debut EP “Dove si vola” quickly climbed the charts, marking the start of a path that would see him break free from the talent-show dimension to establish himself as a fully rounded artist.

In 2010 he released “Re matto”, an EP that confirmed his potential with tracks like “Credimi ancora” and “In un giorno qualunque”, which showcased both his melodic flair and his introspective streak. After a long tour, Mengoni took his first artistic leap with the album “Solo 2.0”, released in 2011: a more ambitious and experimental work, in which his desire to break away from the clichés of TV pop is clearly felt.

The turning point came in 2013, when he won the Sanremo Festival with “L’essenziale”, a song that would become one of his signature tracks. That same year he represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest and released the album “#PRONTOACORRERE”, produced by Michele Canova, blending refined ballads with internationally minded pop tracks, featuring contributions from songwriters such as Ivano Fossati and Cesare Cremonini.

Between 2015 and 2016 Mengoni created a project built around two companion albums: “Parole in circolo” and “Le cose che non ho”. These works marked his full artistic maturity and a further musical evolution. Songs like “Guerriero”, “Esseri umani” and “Ti ho voluto bene veramente” reveal increasingly personal and self-aware songwriting, able to speak directly to a wide audience without sacrificing emotional depth.

In 2018 he released “Atlantico”, an album born out of a long journey across Europe, Latin America and the United States. The record is marked by varied sonorities and electronic and world-music contaminations, reflecting a broader, more mature vision of his own musical identity. The single “Hola (I Say)”, a duet with Tom Walker, confirms the project's international outlook.

In 2021 Mengoni launched the “Materia” trilogy, conceived as a three-stage journey into his own roots, influences and visions. The first chapter, “Materia (Terra)”, is devoted to his musical and cultural upbringing; the second, “Materia (Pelle)”, focuses on encounters, contaminations and the senses; the third, “Materia (Prisma)”, explores the complexity of identity through nuance and contrast. From this last chapter comes the song “Due vite”, with which he won the Sanremo Festival again in 2023 and took fourth place at Eurovision. It is the definitive seal on his career, confirming him as one of the most authoritative performers of his generation.

Over the years Mengoni has received numerous awards and honors, including several MTV Europe Music Awards and a David di Donatello for best original song. Alongside his musical career, he has maintained an ongoing commitment to issues such as inclusion, mental health and civil rights, making his voice meaningful beyond the artistic sphere as well.

His style, in constant transformation, draws on multiple influences: from Italian singer-songwriter pop to black music, from contemporary electronic music to intimate, confessional songwriting.
