Lucy Liyou is a Korean-American musician based in Philadelphia. A classically trained pianist, she shifted her focus toward experimentation, driven by a desire to document the emotions tied to everyday life. Her sonic practice combines ambient, field recording, and acoustic composition into an elegiac whole, rounded out by vocal modulations that alternate between text-to-speech and pansori, traditional Korean folk opera.
This approach underpins her early works, “Welfare” and “Practice”, reissued in 2022 by American Dreams as a single double release.
In 2023, again on the same label, came “Dog Dreams (개꿈)”, which, unlike its predecessors, embraces an unfiltered use of the voice, building an elegant, deeply evocative hypnagogic flow.
