Hailing from Hull, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mez Sanders-Green (vocals), Lydia Palmeira (bass), Mick Sanders (guitar) and Stew Baxter (drums) make up a post-punk band in constant evolution. Their debut album “Popular Music” (2017) bets everything on old-school punk-rock speed steeped in noise-rock atmospheres, while the follow-up “A Picture Of Good Health” (2019) veers towards rougher garage sounds. The tribute to their home city “North East Coastal Town” (2022), a transitional third record where the quartet doesn't always excel in terms of lyrical quality, enacts an attempt to step outside their comfort zone: on the excellent “Friends Without Names” and “Big Moon Lake” the band smooths out and refines sounds already explored on previous records, while also trying their hand at sophisticated ballads like “Duck Egg Blue”, and more danceable notes on “The Drug”, with some interesting results.
