Considered one of the leading stars of mainstream music in recent years, Lenny Kravitz (born Leonard Albert Kravitz, New York, May 26, 1964) has moved through genres, styles and formulas over the course of a music career spanning more than three decades. A lover of the music of the Sixties and Seventies, he revisits and reinterprets their sounds, ranging across rock, soul, reggae and pop.
Singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, he has won four consecutive Grammy® Awards, in addition to setting the record for the most wins in the “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” category. Besides singing, he also plays guitar, electric bass, drums, piano, harmonica and sitar on each of his songs.
In 1989 he debuted on the music scene with the album “Let Love Rule”. Among his most important albums are “Mama Said” (1991), “5” (1998), “Baptism” (2004), “It’s Time For A Love Revolution” (2008) and “Black And White America” (2011). In particular, the 1998 album “5” marked a break from his previous work: it is his biggest commercial success, driven by hits such as “I Belong To You”, “If You Can’t Say No”, “Thinking Of You”, “Fly Away” and “Little Girl’s Eyes”.
He has collaborated with artists of international stature, including Madonna (for whom he wrote the hit “Justify My Love”) and Michael Jackson.
Lenny's twelfth album, “Blue Electric Light”, was released on March 15, 2024.
Besides his eleven studio albums, which have sold 40 million copies worldwide, Kravitz has also ventured into film, appearing as Cinna in the blockbusters “The Hunger Games” and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, as well as in movies such as “Precious” and “The Butler”.
His creative company, Kravitz Design Inc., boasts an impressive portfolio of notable ventures, including hotel properties, condominium projects, private residences and legendary high-end brands such as Rolex, Leica and Dom Perignon. In 2022, he launched his own premium spirits brand, Nocheluna Sotol, a distillate from Chihuahua, Mexico, made from the sotol plant. He was also honored by the CFDA in 2022 with the “Fashion Icon Award”, recognizing his role not only as one of rock's most respected musicians but also as a style icon.
He was married to actress Lisa Bonet (“The Cosby Show”) from 1987 to 1993, with whom he had a daughter in 1988, Zoë Kravitz, actress and singer.
