Lcd Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of James Murphy, a well-known producer on the New York punk-funk scene and co-founder of DFA, the label synonymous with that very scene. Under this name, in 2002 he began releasing a string of singles such as “Losing My Edge”, “Give It Up”, “Yeah” and “Movement”.

Alongside the single “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House”, Murphy released, in February 2005, the self-titled debut album “Lcd Soundsystem”. The track made the UK Top 40 and was chosen as the soundtrack for several video games, while the album received two Grammy Award nominations in the electronic category.

The album would then be reissued as a double disc, including older singles that hadn't previously been included.

In October 2006 the group recorded a track called “45:33”, available exclusively on iTunes, running, fittingly, 45 minutes and 33 seconds, and made for a Nike sponsorship campaign.

In 2007, preceded by the single “North American Scum”, the project's second album, “Sound Of Silver”, was released, earning a 2008 Grammy nomination for Best Dance Album thanks to its seductive grooves, which went on to become one of Murphy's signature traits.

Two more releases arrived three years later: the sprawling new full-length "This Is Happening", still drawing on post-punk, funk and house sounds, plus the live album "The London Sessions", made in collaboration with Hot Chip. In December, project founder James Murphy announced the band's breakup in order to focus on other projects.

LCD Soundsystem reunited in late 2015, giving away a Christmas song online and announcing tours and new material for 2016. The comeback took shape in 2017 with the new album "American Dream", on which a reinvigorated James Murphy explores the dark, tormented side of the American dream, flirting with new wave sounds at times not far removed from those of Berlin-era Bowie.
