Kruder & Dorfmeister are an electronic duo formed by Austrian producers Peter Kruder, born in 1967, and Richard Dorfmeister, born in 1968. Regarded as the godfathers of an entire genre, downtempo, they became among the most important names in electronic and dance music, thanks above all to their remixes of pop, hip-hop, trip-hop and drum'n'bass tracks.
They made their name in particular after founding their own label, G-Stone Recordings, and releasing their debut EP, "G-Stoned", in 1993. The record contains classics like "In Deep Shit" and "High Noon" and is regarded as a pioneering landmark: an enticing, original blend of dub, soul and rap.
The EP was followed by the album "DJ-Kicks: Kruder & Dorfmeister" in 1996 and "The K&D Sessions" in 1998, which projected the electronic duo into a new context evoking a kind of temporal suspension that goes beyond music itself. The pair soon began receiving remix requests from artists of the calibre of Depeche Mode and Madonna, which brought them widespread international fame.
Kruder & Dorfmeister continued to release remix albums and collaborate with some of the biggest names in music, and in 2016, to mark the sixteenth anniversary of G-Stone Recordings' founding, they released the compilation "Sixteen F**kin Years of G-Stone Recordings", marking the start of the "K&D Sessions Live" project. This is a special four-hour dj-set, so successful that the Viennese duo decided to set off on a world tour.
2020 saw the release of their first album of unreleased material since 1998, titled "1995". The tracks making up the duo's new work come from the K&D private archive and blend jazz sounds with folk vocals, samples with electronic flourishes, all wrapped in a relaxed, decidedly downtempo groove.
