Kavinsky, the alias of Vincent Belorgey (Paris – 31 July 1975), is a French DJ, record producer and actor.
He is best known for a style that blends electronic music with 1980s-style synthwave sounds and melodies.
He initially debuted on the Parisian scene as an actor, and thanks to this early work began collaborating with artists such as Daft Punk, Benjamin Diamond and Sébastien Tellier.
In 2005 he was inspired by the music of Mr. Oizo and Jackson and His Computerband, and began performing under the alias Kavinsky.
In 2006 he released his first EP, “Teddy Boy”, which soon brought him worldwide success thanks to the track “Testarossa Autodrive”.
In 2007 a new EP titled “1986” came out, driven by the tracks “Wayfarer” and “Dead Cruiser”. That same year he also collaborated with Daft Punk on their international tour “Alive 2007“.
In 2008 his first collection of songs, called “Blazer”, was released. Real success came to Kavinsky in late 2010, thanks to the release of a new EP, “Nightcall”, which was also used as the soundtrack for the 2011 film “Drive”. Two tracks were taken from it: the title track, written and produced together with Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo of Daft Punk, which stayed on the French charts for 56 weeks and peaked at number ten, and “Pacific Coast Highway”.
That same year his songs “Testarossa Autodrive” and “1986” were featured in the video game “Grand Theft Auto IV”.
In 2012 “Roadgame” came out, chosen as the soundtrack for the TV ad for the video game “Hitman: Absolution”.
In November 2012 he produced a new song, “Odd Look”, which would appear on his by-then imminent debut album and was used for the BMW i8 commercial; the following month he released his first single, “ProtoVision”, the lead track for the album “OutRun“, due out in February 2013.
The album immediately met with great international success.
On March 2, 2013, he took part in the house and dance music festival “Ed Bangerland”, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the French record label Ed Banger Records, presenting “Outrun” and performing alongside Justice, Mr. Oizo and Pedro Winter (the label's founder and former manager of Daft Punk).
On July 8, 2013, his official app was released for iOS, a self-referential game dedicated to the Kavinsky character.
After almost ten years of silence, Kavinsky returns to the scene with the highly anticipated “Reborn“, an album that, while keeping the core identity of his sound intact — a fusion of retrowave and electronica — pushes more insistently toward melodic territory.
