JPEGMAFIA

Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks, known to all of us as rapper and producer JPEGMAFIA, first caught critics' attention in 2016 with “Black Ben Carson” and its take on industrial, deafening hip-hop with a high degree of experimentation. Since then, with the subsequent “Veteran” (2018) and “All My Heroes Are Cornballs” (2019), best listened to alongside other shorter releases, he has continued to draw attention with a style that has proven eclectic to the point of being scattershot and confusing. With “LP!” (2021) he puts his creativity back in service of a certain underlying coherence, then shares “Scaring The Hoes” (2023) with Danny Brown and writes his most rock- and metal-leaning album with “I Lay Down Ly Life To You” (2024).
