James Blunt (born James Hillier Blount, 22 February 1974) is an English singer-songwriter whose debut album, "Back To Bedlam", and its singles — most notably the number-one hit "You're Beautiful" — made him famous starting in 2005. He was born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. His style is a mix of pop, rock and folk. Besides singing, Blunt plays a wide range of instruments including piano, guitar, organ, marimba and mellotron.
Blunt studied at Elstree School, Woolhampton, then at Harrow School (where he was nicknamed "Blunty") and finally at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Before his album came out, Blunt was a British Army officer, rising to the rank of captain and serving as a NATO peacekeeper in Kosovo.
He became the first British artist to top the American singles chart in almost a decade, when his first single from "Back To Bedlam", "You're Beautiful", reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. The last British artist to achieve this had been Elton John in 1997 with the song "Candle In The Wind".
His second album, “All The Lost Souls”, was released on 17 September 2007, followed two years later by “Some Kind Of Trouble”.
On 15 July 2013, Blunt revealed through his Newsletter that his fourth album would be called “Moon Landing”. The record came out on 18 October of that same year.
Throughout 2016 the English artist recorded his fifth studio album, titled “The Afterlove”, released in Italy and worldwide on 24 March 2017.
After his sixth studio work (“Once Upon A Mind”, 2019) and a greatest-hits collection, “The Stars Beneath My Feet (2004-2021)”, the British artist announced his seventh studio album, “Who We Used To Be”, set for release on 27 October 2023. The record was preceded by the lead single “Beside You”.
