Hurray For The Riff Raff

Hurray For The Riff Raff is a band born from an idea by Alynda Segarra, a talented musician of Puerto Rican descent who grew up in the Bronx. After some experience in punk bands, Segarra moved to New Orleans, where she founded her group, whose name was meant as a tribute to people from the lowest social classes, referred to in slang as Riff Raff. After a couple of self-produced albums, the band managed to land a deal for the release of two albums: "Hurray For The Riff Raff" (2011), which featured the best material from their earlier records, and "Look Out Mama" (2012). The strong critical response allowed them to sign with a bigger label in 2014 for the release of "Small Town Heroes". Over the years the band's lineup has changed frequently, and it can really be seen as an outgrowth of the band leader's own creative vision. In 2017 they released "The Navigator", a partly autobiographical concept album that many consider their masterpiece.

In 2022 they released "Life On Earth", whose lyrics are deeply influenced by the ideas of activist and feminist Adrienne Maree Brown.
