Hate Moss were born in London from an idea by Tina Galassi (born 1995 in Guardiagrele, Abruzzo, Italy) and Ian Carvalho (born 1985 in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil). Their collaboration began in 2017 with the founding of Stock-a Records, an independent label that would later evolve into the artistic collective Stock-a Production. The musical project was born in 2018, with the release of the first single "Honey", followed by a tour that took in Brazil, Italy and the United Kingdom. Tina handles the electronic parts, Ian the drums; the duo describe themselves as "post punk-electroclash", but in reality Hate Moss's music is far more wide-ranging than that.
Their debut album, "Live Twothousandhatein", was released in May 2019, aiming to get people dancing with the spirals of "Honey" or steering the guitars into brit mode on "Mirror", the two videos released on YouTube. The story heads in the right direction right from the opening "Funerale" (which follows the brief intro "Hanged Man"): wave visions brought up to date on the only track built in Italian. The guitars are by Alessandro Bianchi, while various musician friends have taken turns on bass.
After a series of concerts in Spain, Portugal and Turkey, in 2019 Hate Moss were invited by the Biennale to perform during the opening of Heat at the Chiesa della Misericordia in Venice. The following year, during the first lockdown, spent in London, they produced and released "Fog".
May 2022 brought their second album, "NaN", released by Stock-a Productions in collaboration with the Brazilian label Before Sunrise Records. In 2023 came a new tour of over 150 dates covering much of Europe, followed in 2024 by a South American leg (Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile), during which they appeared at Festival do Sol (Natal) and Morrostock (Rio Grande do Sul). During the same period, the duo brought in friends and fellow musicians to remix or reinterpret tracks from "NaN". The project was released digitally, one track at a time, throughout 2024.
In June 2025 came the EP "Mercimek Days", marking the start of their collaboration with the Bologna-based label Trovarobato, made up of one new track, "AIKNOW", and three songs recorded live in March 2025 at Karga, a bar in the Kadiköy district on the Asian side of Istanbul. Among the live tracks is an alternate version of "AIKNOW" itself, the track "Remake the Time" (Part 1 and Part 2) – whose original version appears on the vinyl of the band's debut album "Live Twothousandhatein" – and "Birdaha", a song sung in Turkish and made in collaboration with local musician Mutlu Oral.
The collaboration with Trovarobato is confirmed once again for "A Hot Mess", the third album by the Italian-Brazilian duo, released at the end of January 2026: eight new tracks notable for their linguistic and stylistic diversity. The songs on "A Hot Mess" are sung in four languages – Italian, English, Spanish and Portuguese – a choice that makes the album a perfect export product with a distinctly globalist outlook. These hybrid languages develop hand in hand with a melting pot of genres, highlighting the duo's artistic restlessness and their firm intention to condense stylistic influences and cultural interference. After all, the album's very title is an anagram, a reshuffling of the letters that make up the band's name. The opening title track alone is already a successful synthesis of indie rock and live-played club music, but just as important within the album's overall arc is the care given to the lyrics, which highlight social tension and political protest, as in "Bianca", which tackles the dramatic subject of workplace deaths with realism and rare delicacy, and "Mentiras", a collective statement against the lies of the late-capitalist world expressed through sturdy Iberian rock. In "Paradox" the well-judged diversion provided by Tyto's (Beppe Scardino) saxophone unfurls over relentless drumming, while "Amor Sincreto" is enriched by tribal rhythms, embracing world music shades and a featured appearance by Brazil's Vitor Brauer (Lupe de Lupe).
These cross-contaminations grew out of the previous year's tour, which took in numerous countries across Europe, South America and the Middle East, mirroring the experiences gained by immersing themselves in the alternative music and cultural scenes of those places. But the record's real leap forward comes in its final stretch, when the Italian-Brazilian duo show they can also handle elements of club culture very well, through the techno of "Charon" and the house of "Just Another Dream", all of it aided by producer and sound designer Pour Atom Oil (Mauro Polito, another Italian transplant in London) – touches that make "A Hot Mess" an even denser industrial-electroclash sonic journey. The cover art, a 60x60 cm acrylic on canvas by artist Vhro (Sara Vaccaro), came out of a collaboration between the band and the painter: a dystopian landscape built from the digital saturation of religious references, reinterpreted on canvas to render its human interpretation.
