Hania Rani, born Hanna Maria Raniszewska (Gdańsk, 1990), is a Polish pianist, composer and singer. She studied music at the Feliks Nowowiejski School of Music in Gdańsk and at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
Trained as a classical pianist, Rani began incorporating jazz into her work during music school. In 2015, she collaborated with Dobrawa Czocher on the album "Biala Flaga".
Despite her strictly classical training, Hania Rani has gradually explored more modern territory, eventually venturing into ambient contamination.
Between 2019 and 2023, Hania Rani released numerous records, starting with her debut "Esja" (2019), followed by "Home" in 2020.
After the film scores documented on "Music for Film and Theatre" (2021), it's time to revive her collaboration with cellist and friend Dobrawa Czocher, an artistic partnership captured on the excellent "Inner Symphonies" (2021).
In February 2023, the Polish composer released the soundtrack "On Giacometti", a collection of recordings composed by the Polish pianist inspired by the work of the famous Swiss sculptor, painter and engraver Alberto Giacometti.
Invited by director Susanna Fanzun to write the music for the documentary dedicated to the legendary artist from Graubünden, Rani took up temporary residence near Giacometti's hometown, a stunning setting nestled deep in the Swiss Alps, to craft her intense, rarefied music immersed in the most rewarding solitude.
