Gossip are an American trio active since 1999, formed by vocalist Beth Ditto, a tireless riot grrrl, guitarist and bassist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie. Their indie rock sound draws on garage influences, but also carries strong traces of blues and even gospel, thanks to Ditto's formidable vocal range, which has also made her a queer icon at the forefront of the fight for gay rights.
After releasing several records, the band broke through with their 2006 studio album, "Standing In The Way Of Control", propelled by the queer anthem of the title track. Its follow-up, "Music For Men", released in 2009, was also a solid success. The band's formula is a mix of post-punk revivalism, indie rock and dance-rock. The band's fifth album, "A Joyful Noise", was released in May 2012.
Gossip broke up in 2016 but reunited to embark on an anniversary tour for "Music For Men" in 2019 and released the album "Real Power" in 2024.
Frontwoman Beth Ditto remains a global icon and a trailblazer in music, fashion, feminism and the LGBTQ+ movement. Deeply embedded in the fashion world, between shows and runways for names such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Fendi, Cartier, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Versace and Alexander Wang, she has also collaborated with Calvin Klein (a worldwide underwear campaign alongside Bella Hadid and Naomi Campbell), with Jean Paul Gaultier on one of his collections, with Marc Jacobs on an exclusive T-shirt, and launched her own MAC makeup line.
