Gigi Masin

Gigi Masin is an Italian composer born in Venice on October 24, 1955. Raised listening to Radio Luxembourg, he started out as a DJ in the free-radio scene of the 1970s. A completely self-taught musician, he began writing by recording his first songs onto tape. His encounter with theatre in the mid-70s sparked his earliest experiments with tape and electronics. He produced music for stage productions and Rai documentaries, and in 1986 released "Wind", a splendid debut whose first pressing was almost entirely destroyed. Underrated at the time of its release, it has since become a highly sought-after cult record – a sample of "Clouds" appears in Bjork's "It's In Our Hands" – and it was reissued in 2015 by Music From Memory, the label that had previously curated the collection of unreleased material "Talk To The Sea".

Together with British producer and Melody As Truth label head Jonny Nash and Dutch DJ and producer Marco Sterk, aka Young Marco, he forms the trio Gaussian Curve, and his résumé also includes a pair of collaborations with Mantua's own Tempelhof. An artist of real depth who defies easy categorization, Masin continues his quiet, constant work of research, far removed from the pressing logic of the market.
