Future Islands

Future Islands are a synth-pop band from Baltimore. The group is made up of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars) and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals).

The band formed while its members were studying art at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. They debuted in 2006 with "Little Advances" and released their debut album "Wave Like Home" in the summer of 2008. Their second album, "In Evening Air", was recorded in Baltimore.

In 2009 the band signed to Thrill Jockey, who handled the release of their third album, "On the Water" (2011).

In 2014 the band signed to 4AD, and that same March they released their new work "Singles", which featured the track "Seasons (Waiting On You)", a huge success following its live performance on the Letterman Show.

Their subsequent releases, "The Far Field" (2017) and "As Long As You Are" (2020), confirmed and consolidated the band's depth, built on intensity and deep conceptual reflection as their defining strengths.

The charisma of frontman Samuel T. Herring is another key factor in their success, forged on synth-pop sounds that nod to the typical harmonies of the '80s.

2024 saw the release of the album "People Who Aren't There Anymore", confirming the American outfit is still in full form.
