Field Music are a British indie rock and art pop band formed by brothers David and Peter Brewis in 2004 in Sunderland, England. Known for their sophisticated, experimental style, which combines influences from progressive rock, 70s pop and new wave, Field Music stand out for their intricate arrangements and unconventional song structures.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2005, caught critics' attention thanks to its blend of melody and experimentation. Over the years, the band has released a string of well-received records, such as “Plumb” (2012), which was also nominated for the Mercury Prize, and “Commontime” (2018). Their music often features an obsessive attention to detail and a strong influence from orchestral pop.
Beyond the Field Music project, the Brewis brothers have also pursued solo work and collaborations with other artists. The band is admired for their ability to blend experimentation and accessibility, while always maintaining a certain musical refinement.
