Fedez

Fedez, the stage name of Federico Leonardo Lucia, a rapper and TV personality, one of the most famous figures on the Italian mainstream scene.

Born in Milan on October 15, 1989, he grew up in Buccinasco, in the province of Milan, and developed an early interest in rap music, influenced by the Italian and American hip-hop scenes. After some early independent efforts, in 2011 he released his debut album "Penisola che non c'è", self-produced and distributed for free online.

The following year saw the release of "Il mio primo disco da venduto", which marked a step forward in his career thanks to more polished production and collaborations with emerging artists on the Italian rap scene. Commercial success arrived in 2013 with "Sig. Brainwash – L'arte di accontentare", which features hits such as "Cigno nero" (with Francesca Michielin) and "Alfonso Signorini (Eroe nazionale)". This album established him as one of the most popular artists of the moment, with a style blending rap, pop and socially-conscious lyrics.

In 2014 he founded the independent label Newtopia together with J-Ax and released "Pop-Hoolista", an album that further refined his style, alternating ironic tracks with more serious ones. The single "Magnifico", again with Francesca Michielin, was a massive hit. In the following years, Fedez gradually shifted his sound towards a more accessible pop-rap, consolidating his popularity with "Comunisti col Rolex" (2017), in collaboration with J-Ax.

After the split with J-Ax, in 2019 he released "Paranoia Airlines", with which he continued to post good sales figures, but which also drew heavy criticism, with critics accusing him of losing his lyrical edge and giving in to facile pop. Things did not go much better with the following "Disumano" in 2021, a year that nevertheless marked a return to major success, thanks to the hit "Mille" (with Orietta Berti and Achille Lauro).

Fedez has built his public image on a mix of provocation, irony and social critique, often tackling political and current affairs topics with direct, accessible language. While in his early years he stood out for sharper, more socially engaged lyrics, over time he has embraced a lighter, more pop-oriented style. This evolution has brought him widespread popularity, but has also drawn criticism from those who now see him as an artist chiefly focused on marketing.

Alongside his music career, Fedez has established himself as a public figure, moving between television, entrepreneurship and activism. He has been a judge on “X Factor”, launched several business ventures, and become an influencer thanks to his intense social media activity. From 2018 to 2023 he was married to entrepreneur and influencer Chiara Ferragni, with whom he has two children. Their relationship, heavily exposed on social media and in the press, ended in 2024.

His involvement in social and political causes has earned him praise, but also accusations of opportunism. Overall, Fedez remains a divisive figure, as popular as he is now emblematic of a strain of rap that has lost its original edge in favor of commercial logic.
