Dry Cleaning

Dry Cleaning are an English post-punk band formed in 2018, hailing from south London.

The lineup consists of singer and lyricist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard and drummer Nick Buxton.

One of the distinctive features of their musical approach is the heavy use of spoken word.

Dry Cleaning made their debut in 2019 with the single "Magic of Meghan".

Shaw wrote the song after breaking up with her then-partner, having moved out of their apartment on the very same day that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement.

Later that same year, the London band followed up with the EP "Sweet Princess" in August, then in October with another EP titled "Boundary Road Snacks And Drinks".

After signing a record deal with 4AD, in late 2020 Dry Cleaning shared a new single titled "Scratchcard Lanyard", before arriving in April 2021 at their eagerly awaited debut album "New Long Leg", produced by John Parish and placed high on many year-end lists compiled by the leading music outlets, as well as reaching number four on the official UK charts.

Just a year later, Dry Cleaning return with their hotly anticipated sophomore effort. "Stumpwork" is released, again on 4AD, in October, and the eleven tracks on the tracklist do nothing but confirm their talent.

Refined post-punk over which Shaw's spoken word delivery reigns supreme. A few faint contaminations also try to offer some hints of innovation.
