Daniel Blumberg

Daniel Blumberg is a British composer, multi-instrumentalist and singer, known for his eclectic career spanning alternative rock, experimental music and film scores.

He began his musical career as a member of the bands Cajun Dance Party and Yuck, earning notable recognition on the British indie rock scene. He later embarked on a more experimental solo path, collaborating with avant-garde musicians and becoming a regular at London's Café Oto, renowned for its improvised music performances.

His debut solo album, “Minus” (2018), immediately revealed a striking emotional depth and sonic experimentation within an intense, deeply personal work.

Blumberg then released “On & On” (2020), continuing his musical exploration with intimate, intricate compositions that dig even deeper into a kind of “creative chaos,” showcasing remarkable emotional depth and musical complexity.

In 2023, he released “Gut,” another uncompromising tale free of conventional production logic, an album that reflects his ongoing artistic evolution and his ability to tackle personal themes through a now unmistakable musical lens.

Blumberg began composing film scores with “The World To Come” (2020), for which he won an Ivor Novello Award. His collaboration with director Mona Fastvold on this film highlighted his ability to translate complex emotions into music, making a significant contribution to the film's storytelling.

The score for “The Brutalist” (2024) won the 2025 Oscar and marks a further step forward in his career. For this project, Blumberg worked with more than 20 musicians, recording in various locations, including a marble quarry in Italy and cities such as London, Budapest, New York, Berlin and Paris. The Oscar-winning score was particularly praised for its ability to evoke the architectural approach of the film's protagonist, blending elements of improvised jazz with minimalist musical structures.
