Claire Rousay

Claire Rousay is a young Canadian musician transplanted to San Antonio. A percussionist devoted to improvisation, she has gradually evolved into a prolific creator of immersive soundscapes. Her sonic practice centers on building atmospheric journeys that take as their starting point the many environmental recordings gathered over the course of her days, used not as mere data-cataloguing but as raw material to be shaped into a deeply introspective imaginative world. The sound of everyday life, used in its pure form or skillfully transfigured, thus becomes a vital element to be hybridized, generating a hypnagogic multiverse in which different languages merge seamlessly.

The author of over twenty releases put out in just two years between albums, collaborations and short works for labels such as American Dreams, Longform Editions and Shelter Press, she has quickly established herself as one of the most interesting voices on the contemporary experimental scene.
