Christine and the Queens is the stage name of French artist Héloïse Letissier, born in Nantes (28 June 1988). Her first stage name, officially adopted in 2011 with the release of her debut EP "Misèricorde", came from a trip to London, where she was inspired by the work of several drag queen performers who went on to accompany her in her early live shows (hence "the Queens").
Christine isn't the only pseudonym behind this artist's music: since 2018 she has also gone by Chris, Rahim and Redcar.
Her debut studio album, "Chaleur Humaine", crowned her internationally as the rising star of a new, multifaceted and sophisticated strain of pop. The follow-up, "Chris", released in 2018, took her exploration of avant-pop a step further, with explicit nods to the 80s. 2020 saw the arrival of "La vita nuova", a short but biting synth-pop portrait.
Then, in 2022, with "Redcar les adorables etoiles (prologue)", the French artist adopted yet another alter ego for a cold, chamber synth-pop concept piece.
"Paranoïa, Angels, True Love" (2023) is her most ambitious project yet: a deep exploration of the self and of a sense of loss.
