The Brian Jonestown Massacre are a Californian band formed in 1990 in San Francisco, led by the charismatic frontman Anton Newcombe, a true guru of neo-psychedelia and as brilliant as he is controversial, constantly grappling with the fallout of a difficult personality, to say the least, and with alcohol and drug abuse.
The band's name nods on one hand to Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, and on the other to the 1978 Jonestown mass suicide.
