A.A. Williams

Born in London, A.A. Williams started devoting herself to music as a child, when she felt the need for a creative outlet after being advised to give up classical ballet because she was too tall.

She began studying piano at the age of six, and since her teacher also gave cello lessons, she learned to play that instrument as well. While growing up immersed in classical music and listening to mainstream pop for fun, during her teenage years she happened to come across a Deftones CD, through which she quickly developed an interest in heavy metal and its many subgenres.

In 2014, Williams found an electric guitar on the street, with a note attached that read: “Please take me, I need work.”

With the help of a friend, she got that guitar working again, teaching herself to play it. After gaining sufficient confidence with the instrument, she began writing her first songs, dark and dreamlike from the start, reflecting her conviction that "heavy" didn't necessarily have to mean loud or crushing.

Holy Roar Records released her self-titled debut EP in 2019, and after a handful of supporting live dates, she landed a record deal with Bella Union, a label that in 2020 wasted no time releasing “Forever Blue”, her highly anticipated debut album.

When the pandemic's upheavals prevented her from touring to support the album, Williams responded by revisiting some covers that meant a lot to her, posting them online on her social media profiles. Nine of these performances made up “Songs from Isolation”, the fitting title of the collection released in March 2021.

In October 2021, Williams decided to offer a new perspective on the tracks from her aforementioned debut EP, this time arranged for a ten-piece string ensemble.

In October 2022, together with her producer and bassist Thomas Williams, she created “As the Moon Rests”, the new album that picks up where her debut left off, blending her beloved aggressive sounds with a string section, alongside her unmistakable voice, her guitar skills and her no less notable keyboard dexterity, giving the material a fuller, more cinematic sound.
