Inoki

The idea behind “The Jazzness” is simple: nine songs by Fabiano “Inoki” Ballarin, which had somewhat faded over time, are brought back in a jazz key, taking inspiration from Guru and his legendary “Jazzmatazz.” The rapper explained that it was no longer possible to perform them live — the beats for live sets were missing — so he found a solution by reinterpreting them as more intimate and nocturnal tracks, where he could deliver the lyrics with greater intensity.
Inoki is an expert, active since the late '90s with the Porzione Massiccia Crew alongside his friend Joe Cassano, and later building a long solo career, mostly as an independent artist but with a significant stint on a major label as well.

It’s an opportunity to take a closer look at the lyrics and to rediscover a way of understanding rap where the message still plays a central role, as in the opening "Il mio paese se ne frega 2025": piano and double bass dominate the arrangement, while each line gains weight through a smoother, more measured delivery.
Often the result leans toward a traditional '90s jazz-rap aesthetic ("Vecchio quartiere 2025", "Polvere di strada 2025"), while other tracks aim for introspection ("Ripartire da zero 2025" and "Immortali 2025" feat. Zibba), fueled by more emotional lyrics — as well as the street life stories in "Ho visto 2025” and "Basso profilo 2025”. A more upbeat rhythm emerges in "Preso bene 2025”.
A radically reimagined version of "Medioego 2025” (feat. Mefisto Brass) stands out, with muscular brass arrangements.

Delicate guitar touches, carefully balanced rhythmic boosts, and a rare attention to dynamics give these tracks an organic quality, far removed from the robotic-mechanical aesthetic of much trap, drill, rage, and the like.
It’s music to be listened to attentively, patiently, slowly. And to be enjoyed live — ideally in a small jazz club.
